What happens to my OGSure travel insurance options when I reach 80?
Once you have reached age 80, OGSure Annual Multi-Trip cover is no longer available.
Eligible Single Trip cover may still be available from age 80 to 84, subject to the other policy requirements.
Is Single Trip or Annual Multi-Trip cover better for over-75s?
That depends on how often you plan to travel.
Single Trip cover is generally the simpler option for one journey with fixed dates and destinations. Annual Multi-Trip cover may be more convenient if you're aged 76 to 79 and expect to take several eligible trips during the next 12 months.
Your age, destinations and trip lengths will determine which options are available.
How long can I travel for if I am over 75?
The current OGSure Single Trip option covers one journey of up to 30 days.
If you're aged 76 to 79 and eligible for Annual Multi-Trip cover, each trip can be up to 60 days once you're over 75.
Can I get travel insurance for a 60-day trip if I am over 75?
Potentially, yes, if you're aged 76 to 79 and eligible for Annual Multi-Trip cover. Each eligible annual trip can be up to 60 days once you're over 75.
The current OGSure Single Trip option is limited to journeys of up to 30 days, so the 60-day limit should not be confused with Single Trip cover.
Can OGSure cover a long-stay holiday if I am over 75?
Potentially. If you're aged 76 to 79, an eligible Annual Multi-Trip journey can last for up to 60 days.
The current Single Trip option covers journeys of up to 30 days. Always enter your complete travel dates when requesting a quote so the available options can be checked.
Does travel insurance over 75 cover emergency medical treatment and repatriation?
Yes, subject to the policy terms and exclusions.
OGSure can provide up to £6.5 million or $8 million for eligible emergency medical and related expenses abroad, with medical evacuation and repatriation included within that limit.
Can I buy OGSure if I have a pre-existing medical condition?
Yes. Having a pre-existing medical condition does not automatically prevent you from buying an OGSure policy.
However, claims arising directly or indirectly from a pre-existing medical condition are excluded, so it is important to understand how this may affect your cover before buying.
What may still be covered if I have a pre-existing medical condition?
Other policy benefits may still apply when the event and claim are unrelated to your pre-existing medical condition.
This could include an eligible new and unrelated illness or injury, baggage loss or theft, travel delay, missed departure, public liability or cancellation for an unrelated covered reason.
Do I need a medical screening to buy OGSure travel insurance over 75?
OGSure does not use a full medical screening process in its standard online quote journey.
If you make a claim, medical information may be requested to determine whether the claim is connected to a pre-existing medical condition.
If your health changes before you travel, you should contact OGSure before departure so it can confirm whether cover can continue.
Does OGSure travel insurance over 75 cover cruises?
Yes. OGSure includes Cruise Ship Evacuation, subject to the policy terms, limits and exclusions.
Other eligible benefits such as cancellation, emergency medical expenses abroad, evacuation and repatriation, baggage and travel disruption can also apply during a cruise holiday.
Can travellers over 75 add winter sports or adventure sports cover?
Potentially, yes.
Optional Winter Sports Cover can be added to eligible policies for selected winter activities. An optional Adventure Sports upgrade can extend cover to selected activities such as higher-altitude trekking, mountain biking, kayaking and deeper scuba diving.
Always check that your exact activity and circumstances meet the policy requirements before travelling.
Does travel insurance over 75 cover cancellation or cutting a trip short?
Yes. OGSure can cover eligible cancellation and curtailment caused by specified sudden and unforeseen events.
Claims linked to a pre-existing medical condition, known or foreseeable circumstances, or simply deciding that you no longer want to travel are not covered.
Can I buy OGSure travel insurance over 75 if I live outside the UK?
Potentially, yes. OGSure can cover eligible residents of many countries, and your journey does not necessarily have to begin in the UK.
Your usual country of residence is generally the country where you normally live or work for more than three consecutive months. Your residence and destination must both be eligible.
Can over-75s get travel insurance for the USA, Canada or several countries?
Potentially, yes. Cover for the USA, Canada and other destinations depends on your country of residence, the geographical area selected and the policy exclusions.
For a Single Trip quote, enter the countries included in your journey so the complete itinerary can be checked.
What should I do in a medical emergency abroad?
Get urgent local medical help first, then contact the 24/7 Emergency Assistance Centre as soon as possible.
You must contact the assistance team for inpatient treatment, hospitalisation, MRI or CT scans, medical evacuation or repatriation.
If you're physically unable to make contact immediately, you or someone acting for you should contact the assistance team as soon as possible.
How much does travel insurance over 75 cost?
The price depends on factors including the travellers' ages, country of residence, destinations, travel dates, trip type, policy currency and any optional extras selected.
The quickest way to see the current price and available cover for your trip is to complete an online quote.
Is a GHIC enough instead of travel insurance if I am over 75?
No. If you're eligible for a UK GHIC, it can provide access to certain state-provided healthcare while visiting participating countries, but it is not a replacement for travel insurance.
A GHIC does not cover everything that travel insurance may cover, including medical repatriation, cancellation, baggage and other eligible travel-related losses.
When should I buy travel insurance for an over-75 traveller?
It usually makes sense to arrange travel insurance soon after booking your trip.
For Single Trip policies, cancellation cover begins when the insurance is taken out, so arranging cover earlier can provide protection against eligible cancellation events that happen before departure.
