Long stay seniors travel insurance

If you are looking for long stay seniors travel insurance, OGSure gives you a clear, straightforward way to check whether our cover fits the length of trip you have planned.

Introducing our long stay seniors travel insurance

Planning a longer trip? OGSure may provide cover for extended holidays under our annual multi-trip policies, with trips of up to 90 days available for eligible travellers depending on age, destination, trip details and policy terms.

Single-trip cover is limited to trips of up to 30 days. If you need cover for a longer journey, you’ll need to choose annual multi-trip cover instead.

For eligible annual multi-trip travellers, trips of up to 90 days may be available. If you are over 75, the maximum trip length is 60 days.

Long-stay cover at a glance

Is OGSure right for your longer trip?

OGSure may be a good fit if you are planning more than one trip in a year, or if your longer holiday is best covered under an annual multi-trip policy.

It may suit:

  • extended holidays abroad
  • longer visits to family overseas
  • winter sun breaks
  • cruises with extra nights before or after sailing
  • longer multi-country trips
  • repeat travel during a 12-month period

Annual cover can be useful if you want one policy in place for eligible trips during the year, rather than arranging separate cover each time you travel.

How long can each trip be?

Trip length is one of the most important rules with OGSure long-stay cover.

If you are:

  • Aged 64 or younger, with optional Trip Duration extension: Up to 180 days per trip
  • Younger than 75: Up to 90 days per trip
  • Older than 75: Up to 60 days per trip

Each trip must begin and end within the annual policy period. If your trip is longer than the number of days allowed or insured, cover may not apply for that trip.

Long stay travel insurance for over 65s, over 70s and over 75s

OGSure may be suitable for some senior travellers planning longer trips, but the rules depend on your age.

If you are over 65 or over 70, annual multi-trip cover may allow trips of up to 90 days, provided you are within the policy age limits and your trip fits the policy terms.

If you are over 75, annual multi-trip cover may still be available, but each trip is limited to a maximum of 60 days.

If you need a full 90 days of cover and you are over 75, OGSure is unlikely to be the right fit for that trip.

Why long-stay travel insurance matters

Longer trips need careful planning.

When you are away for several weeks, you may have more flights, accommodation bookings, transfers, cruise arrangements, family visits or connecting travel than you would on a short break.

Your travel insurance needs to match the full journey, including:

  • the day you leave home
  • your full travel dates
  • any hotels before or after your main trip
  • cruise dates and port stops, if relevant
  • all countries or regions included in your plans
  • the day you return home

Before buying, check that your policy dates, destination or region, country of residence and trip duration are correct.

What can OGSure include?

Depending on your policy, OGSure can include cover for:

  • cancellation and curtailment
  • emergency medical and related expenses abroad
  • medical evacuation and repatriation
  • baggage, cash and passport issues
  • travel delay, missed departure, missed connection or abandonment
  • personal accident
  • public liability
  • catastrophe cover
  • cruise ship evacuation
  • optional winter sports cover, if added

This is travel insurance for sudden and unforeseen events. It is not private medical insurance.

For the full benefit limits, exclusions and conditions, please read the policy wording before you buy.

Pre-existing medical conditions and long stay seniors travel insurance

This matters even more on a longer trip.

Claims arising from pre-existing medical conditions are excluded.

We use a broad definition, including treatment, medication, advice, or diagnosis in the previous five years, and known or foreseeable conditions.

That means it is important to read the policy carefully before buying, especially if you are travelling for a longer period and want confidence around medical cover.

For a plain-English explanation, visit our Pre-Existing Medical Conditions page.

Where can you travel with long stay seniors travel insurance?

That depends on your country of residence, your destination, and the geographical area selected on your policy.

Your country of residence is generally the country where you normally live or work for more than three consecutive months, and your trip must fall within the policy’s geographical limits.

To check both, use our Where We Cover page.

What happens if something goes wrong on a longer trip?

OGSure includes 24/7 emergency assistance.

If you have a serious medical emergency abroad, the emergency assistance team can help guide the next steps. In many hospitalisation cases, direct payment can often be arranged locally.

You must contact the Emergency Assistance Centre as soon as possible if you need inpatient treatment, MRI or CT scans, medical evacuation or repatriation.

Frequently asked questions

What is long stay seniors travel insurance?

It is travel insurance designed for a single longer trip rather than a short break. With OGSure, the maximum duration of any trip is 90 days, although travellers over 75 are limited to 60 days.

Can I get long stay travel insurance over 65?

Yes. OGSure may suit some longer trips for travellers over 65 because the policy allows trips of up to 90 days.

Can I get long stay travel insurance for over 70s?

Yes. If you are over 70 and under 76, OGSure may still suit a longer trip of up to 90 days, subject to the policy terms.

Can I get long stay travel insurance over 75?

Yes, possibly, but the maximum trip length is 60 days if you are over 75.

Do you offer over 70 travel insurance for 90 days?

Potentially yes. OGSure may fit a 90-day trip for travellers over 70 who are not over 75. Once you are over 75, the maximum trip length is 60 days.

Do you cover trips longer than 90 days?

No. The policy says the maximum duration of any trip must not exceed 90 days, and the 180-day option is only available to members under 65.

Are pre-existing medical conditions covered?

Pre-existing medical conditions are excluded.

Do you cover cruises?

The summary of benefits includes cruise ship evacuation cover, subject to the policy wording.

What should I do in a medical emergency abroad?

You must contact the emergency assistance centre if you need inpatient treatment, MRI or CT scans, medical evacuation, or repatriation.
