Cruise ship cover wherever you go.

Cruises are meant to feel easy, comfortable, and well planned. But if something serious happens at sea, having the right cover in place matters.

Every OGSure policy includes cruise ship evacuation cover for serious medical situations, subject to your policy terms, conditions, and exclusions.

What is cruise ship evacuation cover?

Cruise ship evacuation cover is designed for situations where you become suddenly ill or suffer bodily injury during a cruise and need emergency in-patient treatment that cannot be provided on board.

In those cases, the cost of being removed from the ship may be covered, subject to the policy terms.

Important: Cruise ship evacuation cover applies in serious medical situations and is subject to the policy terms, conditions, and exclusions.

What does our cruise ship cover include?

OGSure provides up to £25,000 / $31,000 towards the cost of your removal from a cruise ship or liner when:

  • you suffer bodily injury or illness suddenly
  • you need emergency in-patient treatment that cannot be provided on board
  • the evacuation is arranged and carried out by a third party, such as a coastguard, military service, or similar organisation
  • you receive an invoice for the cost of the evacuation

What does this mean in practice?

In simple terms, this benefit is there for serious medical emergencies at sea.

It is not there for minor illnesses, precautionary disembarkation, or situations where you are still able to continue travelling without immediate emergency in-patient treatment.

What is not covered?

Cruise ship evacuation cover does not apply in every situation. For example, you are not covered for:

  • charges if you travelled against medical advice
  • charges if you had received a terminal prognosis
  • removal for a condition that does not stop you from continuing to travel and does not need immediate emergency in-patient treatment
  • voluntary contributions where you have not received an invoice for the evacuation cost

Important to know

If a third-party organisation is responsible for carrying out the evacuation, OGSure is not liable for any failure by that organisation to provide the removal, or for delays in providing it.

The exact wording, limits, and conditions that apply to you will depend on your policy documents, so it is always worth checking the version that matches your policy and currency before you travel.

What should you do if there is a medical emergency on a cruise?

If you need urgent medical help during a cruise:

  1. Get immediate help from the ship’s medical team or onboard staff.
  2. Follow the emergency procedures given by the cruise operator.
  3. Contact OGSure’s Emergency Assistance team as soon as possible once it is safe to do so.
  4. Keep any reports, invoices, receipts, and travel documents connected to the incident.

Emergency assistance should be contacted in serious situations involving treatment, hospitalisation, or repatriation.

Why cruise ship cover matters

A cruise combines transport, accommodation, and medical realities that are very different from a standard holiday on land.

If a serious illness or injury happens on board, getting you safely off the ship and to appropriate care can be complicated and expensive.

That is exactly why it helps to understand your cover before you travel.
